A COLLECTION SPARKED FROM A PULL TO ABANDONED LOCATIONS AND DECAY AND HOW THOSE CONNECT TO MY OWN EXPERIENCES WITH ABANDONMENT, ISOLATION, AND, ULTIMATELY, SELF-PROTECTION. EVERY PIECE AND SURFACE HAS BEEN CRAFTED, EMBELLISHED, AND PAINTED BY HAND, PUTTING HOURS OF METICULOUS WORK AND CARE INTO REPLICATING NATURALLY OCCURRING TEXTURES AND ELEMENTS THAT ARE SO OFTEN OVERLOOKED AND UNDESIRED. EACH LOOK AND THE STORY BEHIND IT IS A RECLAMATION- PROOF THAT THERE IS STILL LIFE AND BEAUTY TO BE FOUND IN THE AFTERMATH OF DESTRUCTION.
COME BACK SOON FUNCTIONS AS A STORY. THIS IS THE BEGINNING- THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH OF IMPACT. A BLURRY OF GRIEF, ANGER, AND CONFUSION.
SUBJECT IS IN SHOCK, FOREVER STUCK IN THESE FIRST MOMENTS AFTER DESTRUCTION WHILE AT THE SAME TIME UNABLE TO RECALL ANY MEMORIES OF THE IMPACT. SUBJECT STANDS STRONG NONETHELESS- THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER.
INSPIRED BY LOCATIONS AROUND THE WORLD LEFT BEHIND DUE TO NUCLEAR RADIATION AND THE SHAPES AND TEXTURES THAT RESONATED WITH ME REFLECTING ON THE SPLITTING OPEN AND OVERFLOW OF ABANDONMENT WOUNDS IF NOT PROPERLY CARED FOR.

PROCESS BOOK
THE IMPACT EVOKES EVENTS OF THE PAST TO COME FORWARD, FORMING INTO ONE COMBINED MEMORY OF BEGGING TEARS, FOOTSTEPS GROWING QUIET, DOORS SLAMMING SHUT. TIME MAKING ITSELF KNOWN. DECAY SETTLING IN. RUST TAKING OVER.
INSPIRED BY NEGLECTED RUST BUILDUP ON METAL SURFACES AS WELL AS THE PHYSICAL PAIN THAT COMES WITH ABANDONMENT- A DEEP ACHE THAT COMES IN SHARP, GROWS DULLER OVER TIME, AND NEVER FULLY DISAPPEARS.

top: understructure created from 100% cotton, interfacing, boning, and a horsehair interfaced shoulder piece mounted to the bodice by hand. appliquéd in panels created using jersey knit treated to stiffen and crack before being pulled apart by hand to exaggerate the cracks. finished with a light coat of a fine grain pumice stone mixture.

SUBJECT IS IN A STATE OF SUSPENSION. NEITHER HERE NOR THERE. HANGING IN THE WEIGHT OF GRIEF WHILE TRYING TO PUSH FORWARD. SUBJECT HAS ACCEPTED DECAY AND HAS BEGAN BUILDING IT INTO A SORT OF ARMOR. THIS HURT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.
INSPIRED BY ABANDONED SHIP GRAVEYARDS, WHICH INFLUENCED THE SHAPING OF THE PANELS ON THE PIECE AND THE PLACING OF THE RIVETS. EQUALLY INSPIRED BY THE FEELING THAT COMES WITH BEING TREATED IN A WAY THAT CAUSED SIGNIFICANT PAIN AND FEELING UNSURE OF THE DIRECTION TO MOVE FORWARD IN, KNOWING THAT NOTHING WILL EVER BE THE SAME WAY IT WAS BEFORE.

50/50 poly-cotton twill over a 100% cotton structure formed with boning and steel hoops. hand panted with a medium grain pumice stone mixture. draped with chains handmade from scrap copper riveted together and then treated with a liver of sulfur patina. finished with copper stud embellishments.
FLATS + ILLUSTRATIONS
A QUIET, HEAVY SADNESS. THERE IS A SUBJECT BUT THERE IS NOTHING. SUBJECT HAS BECOME HARDENED AND STILL, WEIGHED DOWN BY THE METAL SHEETS OF PAST NEGLECT. AT LEAST IT MAKES A GOOD SHIELD.
INSPIRED BY RUSTED CORRUGATED METAL ROOFING IN GHOST TOWNS IN THE UNITED STATES AND ABROAD AS WELL AS THE STAGE AFTER ABANDONMENT OF BEING LEFT STRONGER WHILE AT THE SAME TIME FEELING NUMB AND HAUNTED BY THE DAMAGE DONE.

THE KEYHOLDER
THE GRIEF OF THE PAST BUILDS INTO A SHELTER. THE TUNNEL AND THE LIGHT AT THE END OF IT. SUBJECT HOLDS ON TO THE GRIEF WHILE UNLOCKING WHAT COMES NEXT. SUBJECT IS SUCCESSFUL.
INSPIRED BY RUSTY LOVE LOCK BRIDGES AND THE STORY BEHIND LOVE LOCKS AS A CONCEPT, THE SHAPE AND STRUCTURE OF BOMBSHELTERS, AND BREAKING FORTH AFTER SELF-DESTRUCTION AS SOMETHING STRONGER AND MORE GUARDED. SOMETHING THAT HAS THE ANSWER TO WHAT COMES NEXT AND THE RESILIENCE TO STEP INTO IT.

100% cotton on a 100% cotton structure containing two layers of fusible interfacing, approximately 80 channels of boning, and 2 steel hoops. features one cutout in the front and two in the back, each trimmed with shredded organza and mesh and secured with hand-stitched hems. gate created from painted plastic chicken coop fencing. adorned with real rusted keys and padlocks signed by me and those around me on the day of my thesis show on may 16th, 2026. coated with a coarse grain pumice stone mixture and painted by hand.
